Online Mentoring in Little Rock

Students, families and young adults in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Conway, Benton and Bryant can work with a Blackburn mentor by video. Each person is matched with one dedicated mentor who meets with them on Central time, weekly or more often, with text and phone check-ins between sessions. Our team is based in Los Angeles, so every session for central Arkansas happens online, and we say that up front.

Mentoring for a capital city and its suburbs

Little Rock is the state capital, and a lot of the region’s work follows from that: state agencies, large hospital and medical systems, colleges, and the trucking and distribution businesses that line the interstates. Conway to the north has its own student-heavy rhythm, while Benton and Bryant have filled with young families who drive into the city for work. The Arkansas River splits the metro, and plenty of people cross it twice a day.

That mix means a mentor here meets very different people: a teenager in west Little Rock who has lost steam halfway through junior year, a college student in Conway with too much free time and too little structure, a young adult on a hospital night shift who wants a plan beyond the next paycheck. What they share is a need for one steady person who checks in every week and notices when things slip.

Little Rock by the numbers

A few figures for the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway metro, all from the Data USA profile of the metro (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2024 estimates, via Data USA), and what each means for a family considering a mentor:

  • About 37,300 college students live in the metro (metro level, ACS 2024 via Data USA). That is a large student population for a region this size, and many of those students are living away from home for the first time. Weekly accountability helps a first-year student build habits before midterms, not after.
  • The average one-way commute is 23.4 minutes (metro level, ACS 2024 via Data USA), and most workers drive alone. Adding another drive across the river for an appointment is a real cost; a video session from a bedroom or a parked car is not.
  • 10.6 percent of workers already work from home (metro level, ACS 2024 via Data USA). Video calls are a normal part of the workday for many parents here, so a teen meeting a mentor on screen does not feel unusual.
  • The median age is 37.6 (metro level, ACS 2024 via Data USA). The region is full of parents in their forties with teenagers, and of adults in their twenties and thirties trying to settle on a direction.
  • Most Arkansas schools go back in early to mid-August (state level, 2026-27 calendars, MDR data reported by WeAreTeachers). Families who start mentoring in July get a few weeks to set routines before the first assignments land.

Session times from Little Rock

Little Rock is on Central time, two hours ahead of Pacific, and that gap works in a family’s favor. Here is how common slots line up:

SlotLittle Rock (Central)Mentor (Pacific)
After school4:00 pm2:00 pm
After school, after practice6:00 pm4:00 pm
After work7:00 pm5:00 pm
Later evening8:00 pm6:00 pm

Early-morning sessions before school or a first shift can be arranged, and weekend sessions are available for students whose weekdays are packed with work, sports or church commitments. Arkansas and California both change clocks for daylight saving time, so the two-hour gap stays the same all year.

Seasons, storms and the school year

Central Arkansas summers are long and humid, and many teens spend them working, at camp or with relatives. That makes July a natural time to start: a mentor can help a student plan the fall before the August start rather than scrambling in September. Winters are usually mild, but a single ice storm can shut roads and schools for days. Spring brings severe weather season, with tornado watches that clear the schedule on short notice. Because sessions are by video, a weather day does not have to mean a missed week.

Families here tend to ask practical questions. Can a mentor help a teen who is capable but unmotivated figure out what comes after high school? Can a college student in Conway get someone to answer to each week? Can sessions fit around state government hours, a hospital rotation or a long commute from Saline County? Can a parent stay informed without hovering? Mentors work on all of these, and for high school students a parent or guardian is part of the process from the intro call on.

Who we work with in central Arkansas

A mentor is not a tutor, therapist or admissions counselor, and can work alongside those professionals when the client agrees. For other cities in the state, see mentoring in Arkansas, and for how video sessions run, see our online mentoring page.

Common questions

What time are sessions for Little Rock families?

Sessions are booked on Central time, which is two hours ahead of your mentor in California. A 4:00 pm after-school session is 2:00 pm Pacific, and a 7:00 pm session after work is 5:00 pm Pacific. Early-morning and weekend times are available too.

Do you serve North Little Rock, Conway and Benton by video?

Yes. Clients anywhere in the metro, including North Little Rock, Conway, Benton, Bryant, Cabot and Maumelle, meet their mentor by video. The format is the same whether you live downtown or forty minutes out.

Can sessions continue on severe weather days?

Usually, yes. When an ice storm closes roads or a spring storm cancels school, a video session can still happen as long as there is power and an internet connection. If the weather does interrupt a session, your mentor will reschedule it.

Is mentoring in Little Rock in person or by video?

By video. Blackburn offers in-person sessions only in Los Angeles, so central Arkansas clients work with their mentor online, with text and phone contact between sessions. Many families find the video format easier to keep consistent than a weekly drive.

Can a parent stay involved with an older student?

For high school students, a parent or guardian can join the intro call and get regular progress updates. College students and young adults decide what is shared with family, and many choose to keep a parent in the loop.
