Every Blackburn mentor works one-on-one, in person in Los Angeles or by video. You meet your mentor after your free intro call, once we understand your goals and how you like to work.
The founders
Robert Patrick and Nathan James began mentoring together in Los Angeles in 2014. For twelve years they have built Blackburn Mentoring side by side: working one-on-one with clients, shaping the approach and training every mentor on the team.

Robert Patrick, co-founder
Robert has spent his career helping people on the Westside of Los Angeles rebuild structure, purpose and momentum. He leads The Blackburn Group and reviews new assessments to help match each client with the right mentor.
Nathan James, co-founder
Nathan has mentored alongside Robert from the start and leads the mentoring team day to day. He works directly with clients and their families and makes sure every mentor brings the same consistency, honesty and follow-through.
How we match you with a mentor
- Your goals. What you want to work on, from career and school to money, health, relationships and accountability.
- How you like to work. Direct or gentle, structured or flexible, in person or by video.
- Your schedule. When you are free for sessions and how often you want to meet.
- Fit. If the match is not right, tell us and we will introduce you to someone else.
What every mentor brings
- Weekly sessions of 30 or 60 minutes, in person or by video
- Text and phone contact between sessions
- A written plan with goals you track together
- Coordination with your therapist or family when you want it, with your permission
