Families, students and young adults anywhere in Utah can work with a dedicated Blackburn mentor by video. All of Utah is on Mountain time, one hour ahead of our team in Los Angeles, and we schedule every session in your local time. High school students always have a parent involved in the intro call, the goals and regular progress updates.
Most Utahns live along one mountain front
Utah is a big state with a concentrated population. Most people live along the Wasatch Front, the strip of cities running from Ogden through Salt Lake City and down through Provo and Orem, with the mountains on one side and the Great Salt Lake and valley floor on the other. Park City and the Wasatch Back sit just over the mountains. St. George anchors the fast-growing southwest corner.
The rest of the state is red rock country, desert and small towns, including the five national parks that bring visitors from around the world. A family in Moab, Vernal or Cedar City may be hours from the Wasatch Front, which is where video mentoring earns its place.
A young population
Utah has one of the youngest populations in the country, so many households are raising teenagers and launching young adults at the same time. Parents juggling several children at different stages may want one more steady adult in a particular child’s week, someone who is not a sibling, parent or teacher.
It is also common in Utah for young people to pause school for a period of service, work or travel before or during college. That makes gap-year timing a normal part of life here, and the return to school afterward is a transition of its own. Our gap year mentoring is built for both ends of that pause.
The Utah economy
- Technology and software, especially in the corridor between Salt Lake City and Provo.
- Outdoor recreation and tourism, from ski resorts to national parks.
- Health care, finance and a growing life sciences sector.
- Government, defense and aerospace work, including an Air Force base in northern Utah.
- Mining, energy and agriculture across the rural counties.
Education across the state
Public school districts serve the great majority of Utah students, and the state also has many charter schools and a smaller number of independent schools. Higher education includes a statewide public system of universities, regional universities and technical colleges, along with private institutions. Many students stay in state, some leave for the coasts or neighboring states, and Utah’s campuses draw students from across the country.

Common questions
What time are sessions for Utah clients?
Sessions are scheduled in Mountain time. Utah is one hour ahead of Los Angeles, so after-school and evening slots are easy to place.
My son is returning to school after two years away. Can a mentor help?
Yes. Coming back after a long break means rebuilding study habits and routines, and a mentor helps plan that restart week by week.
We have several kids. Can more than one work with a mentor?
Yes. Each child gets their own sessions and goals. We talk through the best setup for your family on the free intro call.
