For Professionals

Blackburn Mentoring works with therapists, psychiatrists, counselors, schools, treatment programs and case managers across Los Angeles. Mentors help clients carry the work they do with you into their daily lives, and keep you informed along the way.

What we offer referring professionals

  • One-on-one mentoring in person or by video, weekly or more
  • Practical support with work, school, money, health and relationships
  • Progress updates, shared with the client’s permission
  • Early notice when a client seems to be struggling
  • A mentor who supports your plan rather than competing with it

Clients who tend to benefit

  • Clients whose insight in therapy is not yet showing up in daily life
  • Young adults building independence and structure
  • Clients returning to work, school or family after a hard stretch
  • Clients stepping down from treatment who need help building independence

Part of The Blackburn Group

Blackburn Mentoring is part of The Blackburn Group, alongside Blackburn Clinical Services (psychiatry, therapy and family services) and Blackburn Recovery Services (sober living and recovery support). Clients can access the full continuum of support when they need it.

How referrals work

  1. Send the referral. Call (888) 305 5422 or have the client or family complete the short assessment.
  2. Intro call. Our team speaks with the client, and with you if the client agrees, to understand goals and context.
  3. Matching. We pair the client with a mentor whose experience fits.
  4. Coordination. With the client’s written permission, the mentor shares progress with you so everyone is pulling in the same direction.

What mentors do and do not do

Mentors focus on practical goals, structure and follow-through between appointments. They do not diagnose, treat or provide therapy, tutoring or admissions counseling, and they work alongside the professionals already involved.

Clients anywhere in the US

Because mentoring happens by video, you can refer clients and students from anywhere in the country. Clients in Los Angeles can also meet in person.
