Good intentions fade without structure. Blackburn mentors help clients stay on track with regular check-ins, a clear plan and a trusted person who notices when something is off, before small slips turn into big setbacks.
How mentors help
- Regular check-ins between sessions by text and phone
- Building and keeping a consistent daily routine
- Breaking big goals into weekly commitments
- Spotting early warning signs, such as isolation, burnout or missed commitments
- Planning ahead for hard stretches, such as holidays, deadlines or stressful days
- Balancing motivation, rest and goals to avoid burning out
Purpose and growth
Many people find that progress deepens when it is connected to something bigger, whatever that looks like for them. Mentors support each client’s personal and spiritual growth in a way that fits their own beliefs, whether through service, meditation, faith or simply clearer values.
Support for people in recovery
For clients in recovery, accountability is especially important. Mentors help clients stay connected to meetings, a sponsor and their recovery community, plan for high-risk situations and respond to a slip with honesty and support. Learn more about mentoring for people in recovery.
If you get off track
A setback does not erase progress. If a client falls behind, their mentor responds with honesty and support, helps them reconnect with the people and routines that work, and adjusts the plan so they can get back on track quickly.

Accountability questions
How does a mentor keep me accountable?
You set clear weekly commitments together, check in between sessions and review what worked and what did not. Having someone expecting to hear from you makes follow-through much easier.
Does mentoring replace treatment or a recovery program?
No. For people in recovery, mentoring works alongside treatment, therapy and a recovery program and helps clients stay connected to all of them.
What happens if I fall behind?
Your mentor will help you figure out what got in the way, reset your plan and get back on track without starting over.
