Coaching for Young Adults

Coaching for young adults is a structured, one-on-one program for people in their late teens and twenties who want to get moving on work, school, money or daily routine. At Blackburn Mentoring, each young adult works with one dedicated mentor who meets with them regularly by video, with text and phone check-ins in between, to set specific goals, build the habits that support them and follow through week to week. Coaching works anywhere in the US, and in person in Los Angeles.

Who the program is for

What coaching covers

  1. Direction and goals. Turning broad hopes into two or three specific targets for the next few months.
  2. Routine and follow-through. Sleep, a weekly schedule, and the planning habits that make goals happen; see executive function coaching and accountability coaching.
  3. Work and career. Choosing a path, applications, interviews and doing well in a first job.
  4. School. Returning to school, staying on track in college or choosing a training program.
  5. Money and everyday life. Budgeting, bills, appointments and the logistics of adult life; see money and life skills.
  6. Confidence and social life. Speaking up, making plans with people and building a life outside work or school; see social skills coaching.

How the program is structured

Every plan starts with the young adult’s own goals. Early sessions turn those goals into specific targets and a weekly routine that supports them. Sessions happen by video at a regular time, with early morning, evening and weekend times available, and text and phone check-ins between sessions keep the week on track. The mentor and the young adult review progress together and adjust the plan as things change.

Coaching or mentoring?

The words overlap. Coaching usually means focused, goal-based sessions with accountability. Mentoring adds guidance from someone who has helped many young adults through the same decisions. Blackburn’s model blends both: one person who helps set goals, holds the young adult accountable and offers perspective from experience. For parents

Many calls come from parents. A coach gives a young adult someone outside the family to be accountable to, which can take pressure off conversations at home. With the young adult’s permission, mentors share progress updates with parents. Coaching works best when the young adult agrees to try it; see how to suggest a mentor to an adult child.

What it is, and what it is not

  • It is one-on-one mentoring and coaching for direction, structure and follow-through, by video anywhere in the US or in person in Los Angeles.
  • It is not therapy, a residential program or a job placement service.
  • If a young adult is dealing with depression, anxiety or substance use, a licensed professional is the right step, and a mentor can work alongside them. In a crisis, call or text 988.

Questions about coaching for young adults

What age is a young adult coaching program for?

The program is built for people in their late teens and twenties who are ready to work on direction, routine, work or school, whether they live at home, attend college or live on their own.

Is coaching done online?

Yes. Sessions are by video anywhere in the United States, and in person in Los Angeles.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Coaching focuses on goals, plans and follow-through in the present. It does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. If a young adult is dealing with depression, anxiety or substance use, a licensed professional is the right step, and a coach can work alongside that care.

Can a parent sign up a son or daughter?

Yes. Parents often book the free intro call themselves. The young adult takes part in the work, and with their permission, mentors share progress updates with parents.

How much does it cost?

We do not publish prices. See how much a mentor costs, or ask on the free intro call.
