Job search coaching for young adults is weekly one-on-one help to find and land a job: choosing targets, building a resume, applying steadily, practicing interviews and following up. Blackburn pairs each young adult with one dedicated mentor who keeps the search moving with sessions and check-ins between them, by video anywhere in the United States or in person in Los Angeles.
Who job search coaching is for
Parents and young adults usually reach out when the search has stalled. It often sounds like one of these:
- A graduate months past commencement with few applications sent; see unemployed after graduation.
- A young adult living at home who says they are looking, but nothing is happening; see when an adult child won’t get a job.
- Someone with little or no work history who does not know where to start; see getting a job with no experience.
- Plenty of applications, but no interviews, or interviews but no offers.
- A person who keeps landing jobs and leaving them within weeks.
- A young adult worn down by rejection who has stopped trying; see job search burnout.
Job search coaching is not a staffing agency, and a mentor does not apply for jobs on anyone’s behalf. If depression, anxiety or substance use is behind the stall, a licensed professional should come first, with coaching alongside. In a crisis, call or text 988.
What job search coaching looks like week to week
- One dedicated mentor. The same person every week, matched to the young adult’s field and personality.
- Clear targets. A short list of job types and employers that fit, so the search has a focus.
- Materials that work. A resume, a short cover letter and an online profile built together. See a resume with no experience.
- A weekly quota. A specific number of applications and outreach messages each week, tracked together.
- Interview practice. Mock interviews, including “tell me about yourself” and questions about gaps. See job interview prep.
- Follow-up and check-ins. Short texts or calls between sessions to keep the week on track, plus follow-up notes after each interview.
Sessions are usually 60 minutes, weekly or several times a week. Cost is reviewed on the free intro call.
After the offer
Getting the job is half of it. Many young adults keep meeting through their first 90 days to build a routine, handle a hard manager and turn a first job into a next step. Our guide to first job mistakes covers what tends to go wrong. For a structured option, see coaching for young adults, a one-on-one program by video.
How it differs from other help
- Parents helping directly: often well meant, but daily questions about applications can turn into conflict. A mentor takes over the follow-up. See how to help an adult child find a job.
- Resume services: produce a document but not the weekly effort that leads to interviews.
- Career coaching: starts earlier, with choosing a direction. If the young adult does not yet know what they want, start there; read about career paths.
How parents are involved
Parents often pay, and you can share what you hope to see on the intro call. The young adult sets the goals with the mentor. With their permission, you receive regular progress updates on attendance, applications and interviews, so you can stop asking every day.
A sample week of a coached job search
A typical week starts with a 60-minute session. The young adult and mentor review last week’s numbers: applications sent, messages to contacts and any replies. They pick this week’s targets, such as ten applications and three informational interview requests, and fix anything in the resume that is not working. Midweek, the mentor checks in by text. If an interview comes up, they schedule a practice session before it. At the end of the week, the young adult sends a quick update on what got done.
The structure matters because a job search has no boss and no deadline. Without someone to report to, the week fills up with other things. A mentor brings back the outside structure a job would provide, until the real job does.
What happens after you reach out
- A short assessment. The assessment takes about five minutes. It tells us about the young adult, the main goals and what the weekly schedule looks like.
- A free 20-minute intro call. A member of our team hosts the call by video in your browser, weekdays 9 to 5 Pacific. You can also book it directly on the intro call page. We talk through fit, scheduling and cost; we do not publish prices, so cost is reviewed on this call.
- A mentor match within 2 business days. After the call, we match the young adult with one dedicated mentor and set the first session. Mentors offer early morning, evening and weekend times.

Common questions
Can you guarantee a job?
No one honestly can. A mentor makes sure the search happens every week, the materials are strong and interviews are practiced, which is where most stalled searches break down.
My son says he is looking, but nothing happens. Can coaching help?
Often, yes. A weekly target, a mentor who checks in between sessions and progress updates with his permission turn a vague search into specific actions.
Do you help with interviews?
Yes. Mock interviews, common questions, explaining gaps and follow-up messages are all part of the plan.
Do you only help with office jobs?
No. We help young adults pursue jobs in every field, including the trades, healthcare, retail, hospitality and entry-level roles that lead somewhere.
Is coaching available outside Los Angeles?
Yes. Coaching is by video anywhere in the United States, scheduled in your local time zone, and in person in Los Angeles.
