Mentoring for Students in Redondo Beach

Blackburn Mentoring gives Redondo Beach students one dedicated mentor who helps them plan the week, build routines and follow through, by video or in person in Los Angeles. For high school students a parent can join the free 20 minute intro call, agree the goals and get regular updates. Mentors do not tutor or promise grades; they help students carry a full schedule without everything depending on reminders at home.

The school picture in Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach has its own public school system, the Redondo Beach Unified School District, with 9,412 students enrolled in 2025 to 2026 according to Ed-Data, the K to 12 data partnership that includes the California Department of Education. A district of that size feels local: familiar teachers, and classmates who have known each other since elementary school.

Redondo Beach is a family city with a highly educated adult population. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that 22.6% of residents are under 18 (county: 19.2%) and 67.0% of adults 25 and older hold a bachelor’s degree or higher (county: 36.0%; American Community Survey, 2020 to 2024). Parents who know what a college path takes can end up giving a lot of nightly reminders.

What Redondo Beach students bring to a mentor

  • North Redondo, South Redondo, one busy calendar. Sports, the beach, a part time job and honors classes all compete for the same afternoons. A mentor builds one honest weekly plan.
  • The handoff from parent to student. Students who have been managed closely through middle school need practice owning deadlines before high school speeds up. See executive function coaching.
  • Attention and organization. Students with ADHD or similar profiles get systems they can actually use. See mentoring for students with ADHD; mentors support skills, not treatment.
  • A plan for junior and senior year. Course choices, University of California and California State University A to G requirements, summers and deadlines. See junior year and the high school to college calendar.
  • Home from college. Students who come back for a semester off or a summer often need a fresh plan. See semester off mentoring.

Parents informed, students in charge

The mentor becomes the person who checks in about the week, so parents can step back from managing every assignment. Parents agree the goals on the intro call and receive regular progress updates. With the family’s permission, the mentor coordinates with the school counselor or learning specialist so the plan at home matches the plan at school.

In person or by video from Redondo Beach

Our team is based in Los Angeles. Pacific Coast Highway and the 405 are slow on school nights, so many Redondo Beach families use video for regular sessions and meet in person in Los Angeles when it helps, at a convenient, appropriate place agreed on the intro call. Early morning, evening and weekend times are available around practices and shifts.
