Online Mentoring in Daytona Beach and Volusia County

Teens, college students and young adults in Daytona Beach, Deltona, Ormond Beach, Port Orange, DeLand, New Smyrna Beach, Orange City and DeBary can meet a Blackburn mentor by video. Every client has one dedicated mentor, sessions are set in Eastern time, and text and phone check-ins between meetings keep goals from slipping. Our team works from Los Angeles, so Volusia County mentoring is online.

Two halves of one county

Volusia County is really two places. On the coast, Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach run on tourism, hospitality, health care and a calendar of big events. Inland, Deltona, DeLand, Orange City and DeBary are quieter and more suburban, and many residents drive I-4 toward Orlando for work. A teen in Deltona and a teen on the beachside can have very different weeks, and a mentor plans around whichever one is real.

Race weeks, rallies and seasonal work

Few places have a calendar like Daytona’s. The big races in February, motorcycle rallies in spring and fall, spring break and summer beach crowds bring waves of visitors, and with them waves of jobs: hotels, restaurants, event staffing, security, parking and retail. For a young adult, that work can be fun and pay well in tips, then go quiet for weeks. A mentor helps them:

  • Budget for the slow stretches instead of spending the busy ones.
  • Turn hospitality experience into a management track or a new field.
  • Keep a course, certificate or job search going during peak weeks.
  • Decide whether to build a career here or aim for Orlando or Jacksonville.

See our guide to managing irregular income and the job search coaching page.

Aviation, trades and technical paths

Aviation training is a real part of the local economy, and many young people here are drawn to flying, aircraft maintenance or air traffic careers. Construction and the trades have also stayed busy as the county grows. These paths reward people who can plan and follow through over a long training timeline. A mentor helps a student or young adult break a multi-year goal into weeks, keep study hours steady and stay motivated through the hard middle stretch.

Teens in an older community

Volusia is one of the older metros in Florida, which means a teen may have fewer peers nearby and fewer activities aimed at their age. Some feel there is nothing to do; some spend too much time online because of it. A mentor helps a teen find one or two commitments that matter, build a school routine and talk honestly about what they want after graduation. A parent or guardian can join the intro call, help set goals and receive regular progress updates.

Daytona Beach by the numbers

  • An older metro. The median age in the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach metro is 47.0 (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year 2023, via CensusDepth). Teens and young adults are a smaller group here, so building a peer network and finding mentors locally takes more effort.
  • Young adults are a real cohort. People ages 25 to 34 make up 11.1% of the metro (same source). Many are working hospitality, health care or trades jobs and wondering about the next step, and that question of what comes next is where mentoring usually begins.
  • Several paths, not one. 27.8% of metro adults hold a bachelor’s degree or higher (same source). Work, the trades, aviation training and two-year programs are all common routes, and a mentor helps compare them honestly.
  • Time on the road. The median commute is 27.2 minutes (same source), and the drive from Deltona or DeBary toward Orlando is often longer. Meeting by video adds no driving.
  • Many young adults at home. At the state level, 36.6% of Florida adults ages 18 to 34 live with their parents, compared with 32.9% nationally (FinanceBuzz analysis of 2024 American Community Survey data). With rents high relative to local pay, launching takes a plan, and a mentor helps set one.

The Volusia year and what families ask

Volusia County public schools opened on August 10, 2026, the earliest date Florida law allows (district calendars for 2026 to 27, compiled by FloridaSchoolCalendar.com, county level). That puts the best time to start mentoring before fall in mid to late July. Hurricane season runs June through November, and storms can close schools and damage beachside homes; video sessions continue from wherever a family is staying. Winter brings the race crowds and seasonal residents, and traffic on A1A and the roads to the beach gets heavy. Families here ask us most often about direction for a young adult in seasonal or hospitality work, peer connection for a teen, how to launch when rent is high compared with pay, and whether evening sessions are possible.

What time are evening sessions in Daytona Beach on Pacific time?

A 6:45 pm session in Daytona Beach is 3:45 pm for your mentor in Pacific time. The latest regular weekday start is 8:00 pm Eastern, or 5:00 pm Pacific.

Is there an office in Daytona Beach?

No. Our team is in Los Angeles, and that is the only place we meet clients in person. Volusia County clients meet their mentor by video and stay in touch by text and phone.

Can you help a young adult training for an aviation career?

Yes. A mentor does not teach flying or maintenance, but helps the student plan study time, manage money during training and stay steady through a long program.
