Looking for a life coach or mentor in Pacific Palisades? Blackburn Mentoring pairs each person with one dedicated mentor who meets in person in Los Angeles or by video, wherever your family is living right now. The mentor helps set goals, turns them into weekly steps and stays in touch between sessions.
A community in the middle of rebuilding
The January 2025 fires changed daily life in the Palisades. Many families lost homes or are still living somewhere else while they rebuild, and students have had school, friendships and routines rearranged. We do not pretend a mentor fixes that. What a mentor can offer is one steady, reliable person and a weekly plan that does not move when everything else does.
Because so many Palisades families are spread across Santa Monica, Brentwood, the Valley and beyond for now, mentoring is built to follow you. Sessions can happen in person when it is practical and by video the rest of the time, so a move to a new rental does not mean starting over with someone new.
What Palisades clients tend to work on
- Getting routines back. Sleep, schoolwork, workouts and meals after months of disruption.
- School and next steps. High school students keeping up and thinking ahead to college or a gap year.
- First year away. College students who left for school while home was in upheaval (college transition mentoring).
- Young adults regrouping. Work, money and independence when plans were put on hold.
- Parents carrying a lot. Professionals juggling insurance, contractors and a job, who want help keeping their own goals from slipping.
How parents stay in the loop
For high school students, a parent or guardian is always involved. You join the intro call, agree the goals and get regular progress updates. When a family is stretched thin, that update can be one less thing to chase. With permission, mentors also coordinate with professionals already working with your child, such as a school counselor or therapist.
What a mentor is not
A mentor is a practical guide and accountability partner, not a therapist or clinician. Loss and displacement can bring grief and stress that deserve real care. If stress, low mood, anxiety or drinking and drug use are part of the picture, a licensed professional is the right step, and a mentor can work alongside one with your permission. In a crisis, call or text 988.
What the first month looks like
- An intro call with you, and with a parent for students, to hear what has changed and what matters most now
- Two or three concrete goals for the next month, kept small on purpose
- Weekly sessions plus short check-ins between them by text or phone
- A review at the end of the month to adjust the plan as housing and schedules change
How to start
- Take a short assessment. Tell us about yourself or your son or daughter and the goals. It takes about five minutes.
- Have a free intro call. Our team reviews every assessment personally, then sets up a short call to talk through fit, schedule and rates.
- Meet the mentor. We match each person with one mentor whose experience and style fit.
- Start the plan. 30 or 60 minute sessions, weekly or several times a week, in person in Los Angeles or by video from wherever you are staying.

Common questions
We are living outside the Palisades right now. Can we still meet in person?
Yes, our mentors meet in person across Los Angeles and by video, so sessions can follow your family while you rebuild.
Is this grief counseling?
No. A mentor helps with routines, school, work and goals. For grief or trauma, a licensed professional is the right step, and a mentor can work alongside one with your permission.
Can we keep the same mentor if we move again?
Yes. Each client keeps one dedicated mentor, and video sessions mean a change of address does not change the relationship.
What if my student has already lost a lot of school time?
A mentor starts from where things are now, with a few small weekly goals, and with permission works alongside the school and any other professionals involved.
