Yes. Families, students and young adults anywhere in Oregon can work with a dedicated Blackburn mentor by video. Nearly all of Oregon shares Pacific time with our Los Angeles team, so there is no time difference at all; most of Malheur County on the Idaho border uses Mountain time, and we schedule there in local time too.
Same time zone, very different landscapes
Oregon is split by the Cascade Range. West of the mountains, the Portland area and the Willamette Valley hold most of the population, with mild, wet winters. East of them, Central and Eastern Oregon are high desert, ranch land and small towns, with hot summers and cold winters. The coast has its own rhythm, and Southern Oregon around Medford and Ashland has another.
Wildfire smoke in late summer and winter storms in the mountain passes can make travel hard. Video sessions do not depend on either.

Work and industry
Washington County, west of Portland, is a hub for semiconductor manufacturing and technology, and the region is home to well-known athletic and outdoor apparel companies. Timber and wood products remain important in many rural counties. The Willamette Valley grows hazelnuts, grass seed, berries and some of the country’s best-known wine, and the Hood River area is known for orchards. Health care, ports and logistics on the Columbia River, and tourism round out the economy.
Schools, colleges and the pull of the West Coast
Oregon’s public school districts range from large metro systems to tiny rural districts, and there are independent schools mostly in the Portland area. The state has several public universities, including large research campuses, plus regional universities and a network of community colleges. Many Oregon students head to Washington, California or Colorado for college, and the state also draws students from across the West.
Independence is great until a student is on their own for the first time and it turns into drift. That is where a weekly plan helps.

Common questions
Is there a time difference between Oregon and your team?
For almost all of Oregon, no: it is on Pacific time, like Los Angeles. Most of Malheur County is on Mountain time, one hour ahead, and we schedule there in local time.
We live in Central Oregon. Is online mentoring practical?
Yes. Clients in Bend, Redmond and smaller towns meet their mentor by video, with text and phone contact in between.
Can sessions continue during wildfire season?
Yes. If smoke or evacuations disrupt a week, sessions can move or continue from wherever the family is.
