Blackburn Mentoring gives Camarillo students and young adults one dedicated mentor who meets them by video each week and checks in by text between sessions. Together they pick a few goals, plan the week and follow through. For students under 18 a parent can join the free 20 minute intro call, agree the goals and get regular updates.
The school path in Camarillo
Most Camarillo children attend the Pleasant Valley School District through eighth grade and then move to the Oxnard Union High School District for high school, which the Pleasant Valley School District confirms on its high school information page. That means the step into ninth grade is also a step into a different, larger district that serves students from several cities, with its own enrollment process, programs and calendar.
Camarillo itself is a mid sized city of 68,652 people in 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, with 20.7% of residents under 18 and 43.6% of adults 25 and older holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. It is also home to about 4,400 veterans (American Community Survey, 2020 to 2024), and Naval Base Ventura County is a short drive away.
What Camarillo families bring to a mentor
- Eighth grade into ninth. Choosing courses and programs in a new district while adjusting to a larger campus. A mentor helps the student plan, start assignments early and ask for help. See our eighth grade parent guide.
- Military connected teens. A deployment or an expected move can unsettle a school year. A mentor by video stays the same wherever the family goes. See mentoring for military families.
- Students starting at community college. Many students begin close to home. A mentor helps them build a schedule, track units and plan a transfer. See mentoring for transfer students.
- Students with ADHD or executive function challenges. A mentor builds systems for planning and follow through alongside the family’s other supports. See mentoring for students with ADHD.
- Young adults and early career professionals. Commuting toward the Conejo Valley or Los Angeles for work, or building a career locally, a young adult can use a mentor for structure and goals. See young adult mentoring.
