Blackburn Mentoring gives students in Glendora, San Dimas and La Verne one dedicated mentor for planning, routines, follow through and confidence, mostly by video with in person sessions in Los Angeles when they help. Parents of high school students can join the free 20 minute intro call and get regular updates. Mentors do not tutor or promise outcomes; they help students build habits that last into college.
The school picture in the foothill cities
San Dimas and La Verne share the Bonita Unified School District, which enrolled 9,885 students in 2025 to 2026, and most of Glendora is served by the Glendora Unified School District, which enrolled 6,277 (Ed-Data), with a small part of the city in a neighboring district. We also work with students at independent and parochial schools and with college students living at home.
These are family suburbs at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 22.4% of Glendora residents are under 18, and the share of adults 25 and older with a bachelor’s degree or higher is 38.8% in Glendora, 40.4% in San Dimas and 42.1% in La Verne, close to or above the county rate of 36.0% (American Community Survey, 2020 to 2024).
What students here bring to a mentor
- Sports, activities and a full course load. A weekly plan that holds all of it, and protected sleep.
- The middle ground student. Capable, a little disorganized and not asking for help. Mentors build systems and confidence before grades slide. See executive function coaching.
- Planning for college close to home. Some students start at a community college or a nearby university and live at home. See community college mentoring and transfer student mentoring.
- Course planning. A to G requirements, honors and AP choices and dual enrollment, a year at a time.
- Exploring careers. Testing interests through classes, jobs and summer plans. See trade school mentoring for students heading toward a skilled trade.

Mentors stay reachable by text and phone between sessions.
