Robby Patrick, co-founder

Robby Patrick co-founded Blackburn Mentoring with Nathan James. The two began mentoring together in Los Angeles in 2014. Robby leads The Blackburn Group and reviews new assessments to help match each client with the right mentor. He speaks about young adults who feel stuck, what parents can do when an adult child is living at home without a plan, and how structure and accountability help people follow through on goals they already have.

Nathan James, co-founder

Nathan James co-founded Blackburn Mentoring with Robby Patrick and has mentored alongside him since they started together in 2014. He leads the mentoring team day to day and works directly with clients and their families. He speaks about what one-on-one mentoring looks like week to week, how families can support a college student or young adult without taking over, and the habits that help young people through a first semester or a first job.

Topics they can speak on

  • Young adults living at home: setting expectations, building independence step by step, and talking about it without a fight
  • Gen Z and motivation: why capable young people stall, and what structure and a weekly plan change
  • College students who are struggling: failing classes, academic probation, withdrawing or taking a semester off, and coming back
  • The first job: the move from school to work, showing up consistently, and handling feedback from a first manager
  • Recent graduates: the gap between a degree and a first role, and how to keep momentum during a job search
  • Executive function and follow-through: planning, time management and procrastination for teens and young adults
  • Parents of teens and young adults: when to step in, when to step back, and how to bring in outside support
