Blackburn Mentoring works with teens, college students and young professionals in Atlanta, Buckhead and the surrounding suburbs by video. We are a Los Angeles team. Each Atlanta client has one dedicated mentor, meets in Eastern time weekly or several times a week, and can reach their mentor by text and phone between sessions.
Traffic, the Perimeter and protecting time
Ask anyone in metro Atlanta what shapes their week and traffic comes up fast. Getting across I-285, up GA-400 or through the Connector at the wrong hour can swallow an afternoon. Families in Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta and Decatur often plan their entire day around when they can and cannot be on the road.
That makes video mentoring a practical fit. There is no drive to a session, and a 30 minute check-in can happen the moment a student walks in the door. The time saved goes back into homework, sleep or dinner together.
An early start to the school year
Georgia schools typically open in early August, while it is still hot and many families elsewhere are on vacation. Summer is shorter, and the first weeks can arrive before a teen is ready. Families often start mentoring in June or July so routines are in place for the first day, then use fall sessions to keep the plan steady through football season and the holidays.
High school students from Buckhead to Alpharetta
Students in Atlanta’s independent schools and in large north metro public schools often carry heavy course loads alongside sports, arts and service work. High school mentoring here commonly works on:
- A weekly plan that accounts for practices, games and drive time
- Getting started on assignments earlier instead of the night before
- Sleep, phone habits and a sustainable routine
- Independence and decision making before college
A parent or guardian joins the intro call, agrees the goals and receives regular updates. Our mentors are not tutors or admissions counselors.
College students and scholarship GPAs
Georgia’s HOPE scholarship comes with grade requirements, so many in-state students know a rough first semester can have a financial cost, not just an academic one. That makes the first year of college especially important. A mentor helps a student set up a weekly schedule, track grades through the term rather than at the end, use tutoring and office hours early, and talk through choices like dropping a class before deadlines pass.
Young adults in Midtown and the Old Fourth Ward
Atlanta draws graduates from all over the Southeast for jobs in business, logistics, technology, healthcare and film and television production. Many live in Midtown, Old Fourth Ward, West Midtown or Inman Park, and the social calendar along the BeltLine can fill every free evening. Young adult mentoring helps with:
- A budget that leaves room for savings, not just weekends
- Fitness and sleep routines that survive a busy schedule
- Planning the next career step or a side project
- Keeping long-term goals alive when work and social life are full
Professionals and side projects
Atlanta has a strong culture of people building something on the side: a business, a creative career, a second credential. That ambition needs structure to go anywhere. Accountability coaching gives professionals a weekly check-in, clear milestones and someone who notices when the side project quietly stops.
Where a mentor fits in Atlanta
Atlanta is three hours ahead of Los Angeles, so an after-school session at 4:00 pm Eastern is 1:00 pm for your mentor, and a 7:00 pm evening session is 4:00 pm. With permission, mentors share progress with family and coordinate with professionals already involved. If stress becomes anxiety, depression or substance use, a licensed professional is the right step. In a crisis, call or text 988. See how online mentoring works.

Common questions
Can a mentor help my student keep their GPA up for a scholarship?
A mentor helps with the habits behind grades, like weekly planning, early use of tutoring and tracking grades during the term. Mentors do not tutor or manage financial aid.
Do you work with families outside the Perimeter?
Yes. We work with clients in Buckhead and intown Atlanta and across Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns Creek, Marietta, Decatur and the rest of the metro, all by video.
Do you meet in person in Atlanta?
No. Our team is based in Los Angeles, and Atlanta clients work with us entirely by video.
