Blackburn Mentoring is one-on-one mentoring and coaching for high school students, college students, young adults and young professionals, by video anywhere in the United States and in person in Los Angeles. Trustees, wealth advisors, family offices and attorneys often meet the families who could use it, usually at a moment of transition. This hub explains how you can suggest mentoring to a client family. The family always decides, we give no legal, financial or tax advice, and anything shared back to you is limited to engagement level and requires written consent.
Pages for each profession
- Trust officers and professional trustees: mentoring for a beneficiary, how it sits beside incentive provisions, and why mentors never verify trust conditions.
- Wealth advisors and family offices: rising generation readiness, structure and everyday money habits, next to the next gen programs you already run.
- Estate planning attorneys: what to tell clients who ask how to prepare their children, during design, at signing or after a death.
- Family law attorneys: a neutral mentor who helps a teen or young adult keep school and routines steady during a divorce, without taking sides.
Guides you can share with families
- Raising responsible young adults in high net worth families: a responsibility ladder from 16 to 26 and a support agreement outline.
- Mentoring for young adults who are trust beneficiaries: written for the beneficiary, including privacy.
- Helping your teen or young adult through a divorce: a guide for either parent.
- Preparing young adults for an inheritance: the non-financial side.
- Raising motivated teens when money is not tight.
Also useful for families: when a trust or inheritance arrives at 18, 21 or 25, an age by age readiness plan for a beneficiary.
The same rules apply whoever refers
- The person being mentored is the client. For high school students, parents are involved and receive progress updates. For young adults, the young adult decides who hears anything.
- Engagement level only, with written consent. If the client agrees in writing, we can confirm that sessions are happening as planned. We do not send detailed reports or session notes.
- We stay in our lane. No financial, investment, legal, tax or estate advice; no interpretation of trust terms; no opinions for any legal proceeding; no therapy. When a client family needs therapy or psychiatry, Blackburn Clinical Services, our sister practice, has referral guides for professionals.
- We never need the numbers. Mentors do not need trust documents, balances, holdings or case files.
- Honesty about fit. If mentoring is not the right kind of help, we say so.
How a referral works
- You mention mentoring as an option and share one of the pages above.
- The family, or the young adult, books a free 20 minute intro call. You do not need to attend, and we never contact anyone on the strength of a referral alone.
- If the client starts and wants you kept informed, they sign a written consent covering engagement level updates.
Referring is informal, and nothing on these pages suggests an existing relationship with any firm or institution. If you refer from a clinical, school or other setting, see our main hub for referring professionals.

Common questions
Who is the client when an advisor or attorney refers?
The person being mentored. For a high school student, the family is involved and receives progress updates. For a young adult, the young adult decides what is shared and with whom.
What can you share with my office?
Only engagement level, such as whether sessions are happening as planned, and only with the client’s written consent. We do not provide detailed reports.
Do you give financial, legal or tax advice?
No. Mentors work on direction, work, routines, decisions and everyday habits. Those questions stay with the family’s professional advisers.
Do you work with families outside Los Angeles?
Yes. Mentoring is by video anywhere in the United States, and in person in Los Angeles.
Is there a formal referral agreement?
Referring is informal: the family chooses whether to start, and we coordinate with you only with their written consent. If your organization needs a written arrangement, contact us to talk it through.
