Yes. Families, students and young adults anywhere in Colorado can work with a dedicated Blackburn mentor by video. All of Colorado is on Mountain time, one hour ahead of Los Angeles, and every session is booked on your local clock. That works the same in Denver, a ski town at 9,000 feet or a farm town on the Eastern Plains.
Front Range, high country, Western Slope
Most Coloradans live along the Front Range, the urban corridor where the plains meet the Rockies: Fort Collins and Greeley in the north, Boulder and the Denver metro in the middle, and Colorado Springs and Pueblo to the south. West of the Continental Divide, mountain towns like Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs and Telluride sit in narrow valleys, and the Western Slope centers on Grand Junction. To the east, the plains are wide open and sparsely populated.
Mountain passes close in storms, and I-70 traffic on a ski weekend is legendary. A mentor who meets by video is not affected by either.
Who Colorado is home to
Colorado has grown quickly, and a lot of that growth is young adults who moved for work and the outdoors. That gives the state a particular texture:
- Recent arrivals in Denver or Boulder building careers and friendships from scratch.
- Families in mountain towns whose teenagers balance school with ski or snowboard training and resort jobs.
- Military families around Colorado Springs who move every few years.
- Students from the plains and the Western Slope heading to the Front Range or out of state for the first time.
The work that powers the state
Colorado’s economy spans aerospace and defense (concentrated around Colorado Springs and the Denver suburbs), technology and software, federal research labs, energy from oil and gas to wind and solar, outdoor recreation and tourism, health care, and agriculture on the plains and in the San Luis Valley. Denver is also a regional hub for finance, transportation and government.
For young professionals, opportunity is real, but so is the cost of living along the Front Range and especially in the resort towns. Budgeting, career planning and deciding where to put down roots are common goals, and our money and life skills page covers how mentors approach them.
Education, in broad strokes
Colorado students attend public districts that range from large suburban systems around Denver to tiny mountain and plains districts. The state also has a sizable charter and school choice sector, independent schools, and programs in the mountains that combine academics with competitive skiing. Student athletes have a lot to juggle; see mentoring for student athletes.
After high school, Colorado offers a flagship public research university, several other public universities, and a statewide community college system. The state attracts many out-of-state students drawn by the mountains, while plenty of Colorado graduates head to other states. Both groups face the same first-year challenges once the structure of high school is gone.
What a mentor does at each stage
In high school
Weekly goals, a plan for the days between sessions and an adult outside the family to check in with. Parents or guardians join the intro call, help agree goals and receive regular updates. More on mentoring for high school students.
In college
Routines, deadlines and staying on track when the mountains are right there on a Tuesday. See mentoring for college students.
In your twenties
Career direction, money and building a life that is more than weekends outside. See young adult mentoring, or gap year mentoring if a season at a resort job is part of the plan.

Common questions
What time zone are Colorado sessions in?
Mountain time, which covers the whole state. A 4 pm session in Denver is 3 pm for a mentor in Los Angeles.
Can sessions work around a ski training or competition schedule?
Yes. Sessions are online and can move around training blocks and travel, and between sessions mentors stay in touch by text and phone.
We are a military family that may move soon. Does that matter?
No. Because everything is by video, the same mentor continues after a move, and we simply reschedule in your new time zone.
Do you have mentors in Colorado in person?
No. Our team is in Los Angeles, and Colorado clients meet their mentor entirely online.
