Yes, Blackburn Mentoring works with clients in Las Vegas, Henderson and Summerlin by video. Our team is in Los Angeles, in the same Pacific time zone, and each client meets one dedicated mentor online every week with text and phone check-ins between sessions. We work with high school students and their parents, college students, young adults and professionals.
A city that runs around the clock
Las Vegas works differently from most metros. Hospitality, gaming, conventions, entertainment and the businesses that support them run 24 hours a day, so a lot of parents work nights, swing shifts or weekends. Health care, construction, logistics and a growing pro sports scene add to the mix, and the region has drawn many families from California and elsewhere looking for more space and lower costs.
When a parent works a shift that ends at 2 am or starts at 4 pm, the usual after-school routine does not exist. A teenager may be home alone during the hours when homework is supposed to happen. A mentor cannot fill that gap on their own, but a weekly plan the student built, plus a midweek text, changes how those hours go.
Scheduling for shift-working households
- Morning sessions before school or on a late-start day, for families where a parent is home in the morning.
- Late-afternoon sessions right after school, so the plan for the evening is set before anyone leaves for work.
- Weekend sessions for families whose weeknights are unpredictable.
- Short text check-ins between sessions, timed to when the student actually does homework.
Because we share Pacific time, there is no conversion to think about. A 4 pm session is 4 pm for everyone.
Students in a very large school district
Clark County runs one of the largest public school districts in the country, alongside magnet programs, charter schools and independent schools. In a system that size, a motivated student can do very well, and a student who is quietly falling behind can go unnoticed for a long time. Many local students attend the colleges and universities in the valley, often while living at home and working. Others leave for school in California, Arizona, Utah or farther away. Both paths have their own pressures: juggling a job and classes, or managing freedom far from home. A mentor helps with the weekly structure in either case; see mentoring for college students.

Summers in the Mojave are extreme, with long stretches above 110 degrees, and most outdoor life moves to early mornings or indoors. Winters are mild and sunny, with the occasional cold snap. A routine that works in March often needs adjusting in July, and that is a normal part of the plan.
