Mentor and Coach in Palm Springs

Looking for a coach or mentor in Palm Springs or the Coachella Valley? Blackburn Mentoring pairs each person with one dedicated mentor who meets by video every week, with in-person meetings available in Los Angeles, about two hours west on I-10. The mentor helps set clear goals, breaks them into weekly steps and stays in touch by text and phone between sessions.

Who mentoring in the desert is for

The Coachella Valley runs from Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs through Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta to Indio and Coachella. It is a mix of retirees, second-home owners, families who work in the valley year round and young adults who grew up here. Mentoring can help:

  • Parents of high school students who are coasting or overwhelmed (mentoring for high school students)
  • Grandparents or parents helping a young adult who moved to the desert to reset
  • Young adults working in hospitality, health care or the trades who want a plan beyond the next season (young adult mentoring)
  • Professionals and remote workers who want structure for a career move, their health or their finances (coaching for professionals)

Season and off-season

Desert life follows the weather. From fall through spring, the valley is busy: Modernism Week in February, the big tennis tournament in Indian Wells in March, and the music festivals in Indio in April. By June, heat above a hundred and ten degrees empties the streets, many seasonal residents leave, and hospitality work slows down.

For a young adult, that cycle can mean long hours for six months and little structure for the rest. For a teen, summer can shrink to an air-conditioned room and a screen. A mentor helps plan the slow months on purpose: a course, a fitness routine done early in the morning, a savings target, a job search for something year round. See building a daily routine and health and fitness mentoring.

Coming to the desert for a fresh start

Some young adults land in Palm Springs because family is here, or because life elsewhere stalled. A quieter town can be a good place to regroup, as long as it does not become a place to hide. A mentor helps turn a reset into a plan with dates: work, routines, money, and the next move. If drinking, drug use, low mood or anxiety is part of the picture, a licensed professional is the right step, and a mentor can work alongside one with permission. In a crisis, call or text 988.

How video and in-person sessions fit together

Our mentors meet in person in Los Angeles, not in the Coachella Valley. For clients here, that usually looks like:

  • Video sessions as the weekly rhythm, scheduled in Pacific time, the same as our team
  • An in-person meeting in Los Angeles when you are already there, for work, family or a weekend
  • Short text and phone check-ins between sessions, around the moments that matter

Families who split time between the desert and Los Angeles can lean more on in-person sessions during their LA months. See coaching in Los Angeles for how in-person meetings work, and online vs in-person mentoring for the tradeoffs.

Where a mentor helps, and where they do not

A mentor helps with the practical side of moving forward: routines, school and work follow-through, money, job searches and family communication. With permission, mentors share progress with parents and coordinate with professionals already involved. Mentors are not tutors, therapists or admissions counselors.

How to start

  1. Take a short assessment. Tell us about yourself or your son or daughter and the goals. It takes about five minutes.
  2. Have a free intro call. Our team reviews every assessment personally, then sets up a short call to talk through fit, schedule and rates.
  3. Meet the mentor. We match each person with one mentor whose experience and style fit.
  4. Start the plan. 30 or 60 minute sessions, weekly or several times a week, by video, with in-person meetings available in Los Angeles.

Common questions

Do your mentors meet clients in Palm Springs?

No. Coachella Valley clients meet their mentor by video, and in-person meetings are available in Los Angeles when you are there.

Is the Coachella Valley in the same time zone as your team?

Yes. Everything is in Pacific time, so after-school, evening and early-morning sessions are simple to schedule.

Can a mentor help a young adult who just moved to the desert?

Yes. Mentors help young adults set up work, routines and money goals, and plan the next step with dates attached.

Do parents stay involved?

For high school students a parent or guardian joins the intro call, helps agree the goals and gets regular updates. For adults, updates are shared only with their permission.
